Young Guns Run Hard At The Pas
It is starting to become a regular thing at the
Perris Auto Speedway when the California Lightning
Sprints show up to run with the 410 sprints !
A couple of sure things are going to happen
here…you are going to see some of the best racing
that money can buy , being performed by the two most
interesting classes of racing run at any track,
and…a VERY YOUNG driver is going to either win the
event or finish in the top three!
The Barona Band of Mission Indians, Barona Resort &
Casino,Performance by Rosson Racing,iti Performance
Motorsports,American Tire,State Farm Insurance,Stover
Racing and DK Fabricating & Machining sponsored event
started off with another beautiful day at the track
with 27 Lightnings trailering to the PAS.
This year , the CLS has made some huge promises to
the track promoters around the Southern California
racing scene, stating that our club will produce large
car counts and bring along our growing fan base to
each event we are racing at.
Of that, each and every one of the CLS membership
should be proud of, as our car counts continue to grow
at each event.
Speaking with some of the members, I’ve come to find
out that some of these NEW drivers and crews became
aware of the CLS by attending some of the races last
year as spectators, and were able to witness,
first-hand,how the boys do it….CLS STYLE…with a
lot of MAYHEM thrown in , for good measure!
One of the new driver/crews that came into our club
this way is Johnny Bluntach #18r and his family.
You see…they attended a 410 Sprint race at The
Perris Auto Speedway last year, and it just so
happened that this was a race that Bill Johnson #99
and Guy Maresch #50 brought their cars to the track
for a static display at the entrance to the PAS.
The Bluntach Family of Don & Cindy, Johnny and Taylor
stopped by the CLS cars, struck up some conversations
with Bill & Guy, and then Johnny got into Guy
Maresch’s #50 Bailey chassis for some pictures.
Well…the rest you must have guessed !
Johnny (The Bomber) Blutach finished second at the
PAS at this latest race, and he’s ready for more!
Well the heat races were run in the usual manner, and
here are those results.
Heat race # 1 had Johnny (The Bomber) Bluntach #18r
, lead his pack around for the first place finish,
with David Bezio #2,Seth Kramer #12,Stuart Hielscher
#6,Jim Squire #54,Mike Valentine #78,Robert Wilhelm
#69r,Guy Maresch #50 and Bill Johnson #99 completeing
this race in that order.
In Heat race #2, Stuey Hielscher #9 came from the 6th
place start to win his heat, with Wink Scweitzer
#41,Brent Sexton #44,Robert Early #40,Bobby Bender #51
,Tim Brown #22,Jason Bennett #4,Tommy Azzarella
#37,and Dale Gamer rounding out the field for that
heat.
Heat race #3 finished with Jarrett J-Man Kramer #14
,Shane Rosson #1,Dan Hillburg #82, Cody Brese
#47r,Paul Krueger #8r,Mike Kotlinski #88,Nick Hillburg
#72r,#24 car, and A.J. Bender finishing in that order.
With the top 6 cars getting the automatic transfer
into the A-main, and the A-main featuring 22 cars in
the race , in was going to be a great B-main race ,
with 9 cars battling it out for the remaining transfer
spots.
In the B-Main, Tommy Azzarella #37r, Jason Bennett
#4, Guy Maresch #50 and Dale Gamer #17 fought it out
to gain the transfers, with A.J. Bender #21r,The #24
car, Bill Johnson #99 , Nick Hillburg #72r and Robert
Wilhelm #69r missing out on the feature race.
With the field set for the A-main now, we took a
short intermission and had some of the teams go into
the grandstands with their helmets to collect
donations for
a very worthy charitable cause, the American Cancer
Society and the Perris Auto Speedway Bike Giveaway.
Quite a considerable amount of money was collected
and handed over to the track, with a informal contest
being conducted with the 410 sprint teams as to who
could collect the largest amount of money.
It was noted that Jarrett J-Man Kramer was seen
interacting with the fans in the stands and had his
helmet filled to the top with donations.Jarret always
does his best and is at his best when he is hanging
out with the fans, and that makes him one of the FAN
FAVORITES.Thanks J-Man…again.
Stuey Hielscher #9 started the A-Main in 11th
position and drove his Lightning to another win,
making it 2 in a row at The PAS for this young
man.Driving his Rosson Racing,HenchCraft Racing

Henchcraft to another thrilling victory has allowed
Stuey to be the best this year at The PAS.
I still remember when Stuey raced for the first time
with the CLS ( in his old car) and he couldn’t finish
a race without spinning out.Now Stuey seems to be the
class of the field.
Stuey stated that he got a great start at the
beginning of the race , passing 3 cars at the first
turn, and then almost flipped on lap 2.He drove a low
line til the track started getting tight, then he was
able to drive it in anywhere he wanted to while
passing lapped traffic.
Though he had to borrow a helmet from CJ Gansen
because his helmet is being custom painted as a
result of his last win here, he still drove another
dominating race through this great field of racers for
the victory.Stuey has now moved up to 7th. overall in
points within the CLS and is still on the move.
Special Thanks go out to Mom & Dad,Tyler,Jeff Bates
and Shane Rosson for all their help …again!
Stuey was timed on one lap in the A-Main at 17.35,
which is smoking quick for a Lightning Sprint.
Johnny The Bomber Bluntach #18r took the 2nd place
finish while starting the race from 4 th. position.
He was able to get around the pole sitter of Cody
Brese #47r after using one lap to set him up for the
pass, and then Stuey came flying by him to take the
lead on this well groomed track.Shane Rosson put tons
of pressure on Johnny , but he was able to hold onto
the position for the finish. This was his second 2nd.
place finish with the CLS.
Johnny The Bomber Bluntach is a very quiet, almost
shy person, who is still only 19 years old.He has come
along way within a very short period of time.
While interviewing him, I was also able to get some
great background info from his Mother ,Cindy, about
how his car has come to being painted black and pink
.It seems that after destroying his original car early
on in the year, his mother did not want him racing
anymore, as it was certainly too dangerous.
After many long discussions about him still wanting
to race, she gave into him racing…but only in a pink
car.You see…Cindy though that he wouldn’t even
consider driving a PINK CAR, so she thought that this
racing thing would end right there and then.
Well Johnny thought it over and decided that driving
a Pink car was better than no car…and here he sits
with his second 2nd place finish so far.
Now that is determination.
Johnny B. , you are the man !
Johnny wanted to thank his parents Don & Cindy, his
grandparents Gary & Donna and his brother Taylor.
Anyone looking to sponsor an up-and-coming racer
should go over to the Bluntach pits at the next race,
as they would love to talk to you.
I’d really like to thank Cindy for giving me some
time to speak with her, and I really enjoyed our
conversation…Gee, it really is a small world after
all !
Shane Rosson captured his 3rd. place finish in his

HenchCraft.Shane applied a lot of heat on Johnny
Bluntach during the feature race, but had to settle
for the 3rd. place finish.Consistent finishes this
year has kept Shane in 4th. place over-all in CLS
points.
Brent Sexton #44 finished next, with Jarrett J-Man
Kramer #14,David Bezio #2,Cody Brese #47r,Wink
Schweitzer #41,Seth Kramer #12,Dan Hillburg #82,Stuart
Hielscher #6,Robert Early #40,Mike Valentine #78,Jason
Bennett #4, Paul Krueger #8r,Dale Gamer #17 making up
the finishing order for the cars that finished under
power.
Tim Brown #22,Bobby Bender #51,Tommy Azzarella
#37r,Guy Maresch #50,and Jason Bennett #4 made up the
rest of the field from the A-Main event.
This race turned out to be another of the fastest
races that the CLS has ever witnessed, with the cars
and speeds being tuned up and turned up to another
level of intensity…or should I say controlled
MAYHEM…at it’s finest!
Congratulations to Stuey on another victory, and to
Johnny The Bomber Bluntach and Shane Rosson for their
great finishes.
The next race is back at the PAS, on June 7th.
I expect another great racing event, with
20-something cars in attendance, and everyone going
BALLS-To-The-WALLS.
My apologies for the late-ness of the story, as I
decided to change my cable services to one of those
“Bundled Package Deals”, only to get one of those
Bungled Packaged Deals instead, as my internet
services have been intermittent (at best) for a couple
of weeks. Lets hope that the problems have been
alleviated and I can get back to some form of internet
services again.
With the 2008 season almost half way completed now, I
guess it is still anyones Championship to win.
With many races still to be run, I’d say it would be
a great idea to catch these last half of the season
races , as they always seem to get better, more
intense, and just a little bit crazier!
That’s my story, and I’m sticking to it!
