Stuart Hielscher Jr. Wins Perris Auto Speedway

Perris Auto Speedway Results for 4/19/08

  1. # 9 Stuart Hielscher Jr.
  2. #44 Brent Sexton
  3. #2 David Bezio

Everyone loves a party, and on April 19th the California Lightning Sprints put on another great party at the Perris Auto Speedway, running their 6th race of the 2008 season. It’s definetly beginning to appear that this year’ switch to running our HOME TRACK races at The PAS has brought about some wonderfully exciting races…not only for these very fortunate fans here , but also for all the teams within the CLS.
Running at this nationally famous 1/2 mile clay oval is a real step-up in the right direction for the club. We are now able to race in front of a larger and more appreciative fan base , but it is also a much nicer facility overall.

Great snack bars, clean restrooms, tons of parking,a great location that is close to the freeways, brilliant lighting, good pit areas, great management,a large grandstand area with good viewing from any seat, the raised back-stretch which enhances viewing from these seats, and the wonderfully loyal, knowlegable and dedicated fans, along the best race promoter on the west coast…who pays good money (on time) to the racers for their appearances. What more could a racing club like ours ask for ! Ya just gotta love The Pas…and all of it’s national exposure!

Twenty seven (27) mini sprints made the haul to The PAS on this sunny spring day, which gauranteed another full compliment of open wheeled hot rods for their MAIN EVENT. Way to go boys! With the California Lightning Sprints pitting outside the track again, right at the the pit entrance area, they certainly have the look of a strongly represented racing club to anyone else who attends their events, as they have many cars show up, along with all of their crews , families and friends. Nothing makes a track promoter happier than when a club brings along a large following of paying fans. Heat racing started out with on a beautifully groomed track and the club was ready to rumble again. Jarrett J-Man Kramer #14 led his heat around the track for the win and the automatic transfer, earning him a forward position in the main.
David Bezio #2 ,Jim Squire #54,A.J. Bender #21r, Jason Bennett #4 and ZoomGuy Maresch #50 all earned the automatic transfers too from heat #1. Bill Johnson #99, Robert Wilhelm #69r and Nick Hillburg #72r finished the heat race in that order to be left to race their way into the A-Main thru a B-Main.

Heat race #2 had Dan Hillburg #82 get the checkeredflag for what i believe to be his 1st win with the CLS. Remember Dan…the first win is always the toughest one to get, and I wish you many more victories.
Call or E-mail me next time so I can get your side of the race, and throw you in some sponsor recognition bones. Seth Kramer #12,John Bluntach #18r, Wink Schweitzer #41,Paul Krueger #8r and Darren Hillburg #81x rounded out the top 6 positions to earn the automatic transfers to the A-Main. Tommy Azzarella #37r and Dale Gamer #17 finished the race out of the transfer spots and were left to fight it out thru the B-Main also. Tim “The Thrilla” Brown #22 started this 2nd. heat race near the back of the field at the green flag and drove “a killa” race to get to 4th place, only to get tangled up with Paul Krueger #8r and be taken off the track on the hook.

Tim always seems to bring the DRAMA with him, as he seems to spend more time in the air than on the dirt, yet he ALWAYS finds a way to get his hot rod back on the track for the mains. Tim wanted to send Special Thanks to Brent Sexton,Twink Kramer,Donnie (D.K. Fab) Karraker, Seth Kramer, Stuart & Stuey, Wink,Shona and Mike Schweitzer, brother Jim and his daughter Cassidy for all of the help in getting him race-ready again….and in such a short time. It seemed that they had to repair or replace everything in about 15 minutes, before the B-Main, and he was seen pulling a wheelie out of the pits just in time to catch up with the circling field as they headed for the green flag. Somehow…someway…The Thrilla caught the field at the green…drove through the field…and won the damn race. On top of being a pretty good driver/mechanic he is a crazy, funny guy…so I gotta give you props Thrilla. I love to hear from Tim after each race, as he gives ya the straight poop…just from a slightly different angle…ya know ..slightly askewed !

Back to racing… Heat race #3 was won by Brent Sexton #44,with Stuey Hielscher #9, Shane Rosson #1,Stuart Hielscher #6,Mike Valentine #78 and Robert Early #40 finishing in that order to earn the automatic transfers, in one of the most stacked heat races we have ever seen in the CLS. Tom Hurlburg #47r, Mike Kotlinski #88 and Darren Hillberg were forced to fight through the B-Main to get into the BIG SHOW, after they failed to qualify thru the 3rd. heat race of the night.

With these great heat races completed, the remaining cars were put on the track, with very little time for adjustments or repairs, and they battled it out for the four remaining qualifying positions in the
starting field.
As I mentioned earlier, Tim “The Thrilla ” Brown #22
won this race in a real show of driving, with Tommy
Azzarella #37r,Tom Hurlberg #47r and Dale Gamer #17
earning the last qualifying spots open.
Bill Johnson #99, having one of his most forgetable
nights ever since being with the club, was forced to
put his car on the trailer after failing to qualify,
along with Mike Kotlinski #88,Robert Wilhelm #69r and
Nick Hillberg #72r.
With the Barona Band of Mission Indians, Barona
Resort & Casino, Performance By Rosson Racing, iTi
Performance Motorsports,American Tire,State Farm
Insurance, Stover Racing sponsored event now set to
go, it was truly shaping up to be another great points
race for the CLS.
And thanks to Built For Speed Paints from Long Beach,
California, who sponsored every Main Event for the
night with a donated $1000 helmet paint job for each
winner, we now had some extra incentive to put on
another great show.
The Perris Auto Speedway allowed us to run 22 cars in
our main event, based upon our high car counts at each
event there…so we did !
Stuey Hielscher drove his Rosson Racing,HenchCraft
Racing Products,The Graphics Company, Custom Dirt
Work,Morris & Son Trucking, Wiibec Powder Coating #9
HenchCraft to the Checkered Flag again, gaining his
2nd true Main Event win of the 2008 season and of his
career.
Starting from the 7th position he was able to get to
the front and stave off Brent Sexton and David Bezio
for the victory on this quickly going dry-slick track.
Stuey battled with Shane Rosson for the first 4-5
laps, and later pulled away from Brent Sexton in the
race, as his car just kept getting better.
His father, Stuart, mentioned that Stuey made a very
decisive adjustment before the Main, which gave him
everything he needed to get up on the wheel and scoot.
Stuey wanted to send special thanks to “Built For
Speed Paint” out of Long Beach , Cali. for their
sponsoring of these Main Events tonite, and for the
donating of the $1000 paint job to each winner.
It will be very cool to see what his new helmet paint
will look like.
Congratulations Stuey !
Brent Sexton wheeled his new Sunset Glazing,Greg &
Angie Dawson, NGK Spark Plugs, Scotty & Jimmy
Keyes,Performance by Rosson Racing,Antonellies
Deli,Hard Core Polishing, Sexton Fire Protection
sponsored car around the track to earn the 2nd. place
on the podium.
With 14 years of racing experience in the CLS,his
2nd. year as our CLS Club President,10 years as a CLS
Board Member, one CLS Championship and many …many
victories to his name, Brent always is a crowd
favorite.
He would again like to thank Holly Sexton,
Dalton,Grant and his Dad Gary for their love and
support.
David Bezio #2 took the 3rd. place on the podium, in
his Performance by Rosson Racing, HenchCraft Racing
Products sponsored HenchCraft.
Being our present 2008 CLS points leader, and showing
his usual consistant style and skills, David continues
to lead our club, along with being a Board Member too.

Starting in the 12th position, David really had his
Lightning flying on the wind again…as usual !
David sent thanks out to his wife,Inga and his little
girl and to all of his crew and Dad !
Rounding out the TOP 10 were Shane Rosson #1,Stuart
Hielscher #6,Jarrett J-Man Kramer #14,Seth Kramer
#12,Mike Valentine #78,A.J. Bender #21r and Wink
Schweitzer #41.
Tom Hurlburg #47r,Robert Early #40 (welcome back
Robert),TRim “The Thrilla” Brown #22, Jason Bennett
#4,Paul Krueger #8r, Dale Gamer #17,Dan Hillberg
#82,Tommy Azzarella #37r,Guy Maresch #50,Darren Hill
#81x, Jim Squire #54 and Johnny Bluntach #18r
completed the field in this order.
Jim Squire took a nasty tumble in his #54 car, which
was the first real damage they have suffered in 2 1/2
years. I’d like to wish him a speedy recovery from all
those aches and bruises.
And I wanted to give a special shout out to his
Father…Pops…!
Pops’ is a walking fountain of info regarding
anything that has to do with mini sprint racing and
all the tracks, and sitting with him is a real history
lesson about “life in the racing lane”. Thanks to you
Pops’!
I truly miss having our racing conversations with
you.
Stuart Hielscher #6 finished in 5 th. place and Wink
Schweitzer #41 got the 10 place finish to earn them
each a Racing Optics Award.
With only 6 races being run so far this year, we
still have many races left…so I’m sure there is
plenty of time for everyone to get to a track soon to
see the infamous Califonia Lightning Sprints in
action.
The CLS BOYS will be back in action on May 10th, and
that will be at our favorite track again…The PAS !
Again, I’d truly like to thank everyone who was able
to take the time to call me with your side of the
story.
Special Thanks to Brother Bill, Guy & Ryan Maresch
for their never ending efforts to keep me informed,
all their stories…and lies, and their kind hearts.
Also to Stuart & Stuey Hielscher,Tim “The Thrilla”
Brown #22 for his sharing his dose of insanity with
me. And my loving and understanding wife, Susan,
for keeping me under control when I can’t get to the
track as often as I would like to, and for allowing me
to put off doing the Honey-Do’s list…when necessary
!
Well, spring finally came to the Rockies, and I’ve
been extremely busy catching up with the carnage here.
But it finally feels like summer racing conditions
are ready to “get it on”.
Break out the bar-b-ques, bust open some weenies, a
twist off some caps from your favorite brews…and
lets go racing.
The boys would like to see you all at THE PAS on the
10th. of May…they promise to show you all some good
ole fashion..kick ass…mayhem !
That’s my story & I’m sticking to it !
